Who is Your One

Who is Your One? Our hope is that each member of New Life would have one person they reaching out to with the love of Christ. Who could that person be for you? A friend? A family member? Someone you work with? This week, take time to pray for that person and reach out them with God’s love.

Accelerate Resources

Hey Accelerate members,

At our last meeting we covered a lot of important material regarding Who Jesus is, why we need a savior, why Jesus is the only one who can save us, what it means that Jesus died for us, etc. Here a couple of follow up resources for people who missed the presentation, or want to hear more on these topics.

Resource #1 - Jesus' claim to be God. Yesterday we noted that a distinctive of the Christian faith is Jesus’ claim to be God. Here is an expanded presentation on that claim, it’s about a 30 minute long audio presentation from a weekend service.

Resource #2 – Jesus is the Way Yesterday we used prison as an example to understand how Jesus is the only way to get right with God. Here is a presentation from a couple years back that reinforces this truth. The presentation is not the same as we did last night but very similiar. It's about 30 minutes long and will be a good review.

New Leader Profile

Here are some things to get to know Leanna:

Area of Service:
New Life Youth

Favorite Bible Verse:

This changes all the time, but 2 that have stuck with me are Romans 12:2 “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” and Isaiah 55:8-9 “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.

Favorite Music or Artist(s):

I'll listen to anything. A few of my favorites are Flyleaf, Mayday Parade, Family Force 5, Barlowgirl and Inhabited.

Area you feel God has used or is using you the most?:

I feel God is using me the most right now to mentor and teach myself and Devin's small group of girls. I feel Him putting me in a position of influence to give the girls an example to look up to and to teach me not to be a hypocrite.

A random fact that most people wouldn't know about you unless you told them:

Persian cats are my favorite! I love their flat faces =D

What was your dream job/profession that you had as a kid?:

When I was younger I always wished I could be a teacher or a doctor.

What is the most satisfying thing when it comes to serving?:

The most satisfying thing about serving is the humility that you learn from it. No longer are your actions selfish, done to please yourself, but they are done to further others.

What is one bit of advice you would give to others who are considering serving?:

Be sure to pray about where God wants you before you jump into serving. Also, make sure you are serving as a way to serve God, not to get recognition for yourself.

Haiti relief

The poorest nation in the western hemisphere has been hit with a major earthquake. If you would like to help, here is a link to Samaritan's purse, a Christian organization that does relief work. By making a donation directly to them, you'll get resources into the hands of those who can, as quickly as possible.
Whether or not you contribute financially, everyone can help by saying a prayer for those affected.

Here's the diagram of the temple we showed during today's service. You can find a bigger version of it here.

Our "boxes" gets a second life

Any of you recognize this box wooden rolling box? If you set up or take down on Sunday morning you do!

Our church made a dozen mobile storage units when meeting at Santiago High School, these really speed up the set up when meeting at a temporary location. Now that we're back in the building, we only need a handful of them.

We have good news, the boxes aren't going into retirement, but finding a second life. We contacted a church that is meeting at school near Colton and have donated the remaining units to them. It's good to know that they will be used for God's Kingdom. We hope that this church sees good things happen as they reach their community for Christ.

New Leader Profile

This is the first in a series of blog posts designed to introduce you to some of the new leaders at New Life. The first leader we would like to introduce is Solomon Cheifer.

Here are some things to help you get to know Solomon:

Area of Service: Small Group Leader

Favorite Bible Verse:

Romans 12:1-2, "I appeal to you therefore, brothers by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be confromed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect."

Where do you feel God is using you the most?:

I feel God is using me the most when people have problems in their life and I can direct them to the word of God for the answers they need.

What was your dream job/profession as a kid?:

When I was a kid I wanted to be a dinosaur when I grew up.

What is one bit of advice that you would give to others who are considering serving?:

And besides being something believers are supposed to do, serving is a good way to take a break from thinking about your own problems for a little while.

Do you know a church member in need?

Thanks to a handful of special gifts, we have some grocery store gift cards we want to pass on to members in need. We've asked our small group leaders to be point people for identifying members in need and distributing cards. Our small group members have their ear to the ground and with the help of their group members, can get the help to those who need it.

If you know a member who is in need, make sure you let your small group leader know. If you're not in a small group you can find out more more about our small groups here.

P.S. If you would like to help a member in need, you can either give a financial gift to the church (and write "care" on the check), or purchase a gift card to a local supermarket and drop it off at the church office.

Haiti relief

Do you want to help the people of Haiti? We are steering members toward Samaritan's purse, an organization run by Franklin Graham, Billy Graham's son. But there are many great organizations that are helping, including this group - Churches helping churches. The focus of this organization is for churches in America to help churches in Haiti that have been hit by the disaster. You can find out more information about them here.
