On Sunday we looked at the story of God sending manna to
feed His people. The big idea from the
service was: Manna is an opportunity to understand a daily relationship with
Jesus. In other words, there are
parallels between how God fed His people in the desert and how God provides
followers of Christ with what they need. The following are some of the points
that were shared.
1.
I need to seek God’s help daily. Vs 4
“gather enough for that day” God
fed His people by providing them each day, their daily bread. Manna was gathered fresh each morning. As followers of Christ we look to God daily
for what we need in our relationship with Him.
2.
I can’t live off yesterday’s leftovers. Vs
19 “no one is to keep any of it until morning” If someone tried to keep manna overnight, it is spoiled. As a follower of Christ, I can’t live off
yesterday’s leftovers.
3.
God will provide what I need in order to obey
Him. Vs 22 “twice as much” When
God commanded the people to rest on the Sabbath, He also gave them the ability
to rest by providing twice as much manna on the sixth day. When God calls us to do something, He gives
us the ability to obey Him. If God calls
us to forgive someone He will give us the ability to forgive them. If God calls us to go through a difficult
time in life, He will provide what we need to go through that difficult time.
4.
Over time I need to guard my appetite for
the things of God. Numbers 11:6 “lost
their appetite” After eating
manna day in and day out, some of the people lost their appetite for manna and
longed for the food of Egypt. On Sunday
we talked about maintaining a hunger for God.
Closing thought – Jesus is the true bread of
life. In John 6:32-35 Jesus reminds us that He is the
true Bread from God.
