What happens, when God’s
people lose their appetite for the very thing God uses to feed them?
During the Exodus, God fed his people with manna. But
what happens after years of eating this bread from heaven? Some of the people lost their appetite!
Numbers 11: 4 The rabble with them began to
crave other food, and again the Israelites started wailing and said, “If only
we had meat to eat! 5 We remember the fish we ate in Egypt at no
cost—also the cucumbers, melons, leeks, onions and garlic. 6 But now we
have lost our appetite; we never see anything but this manna
When we first go to
church, when we first learn from the Bible, it’s like the love boat, it’s
exciting and new. (old 70’s reference). But what about when you’ve been praying, and
reading the Bible and going to church for 40 years? What happens when a
follower of Christ loses their appetite for the very thing that God uses to
help them grow spiritually?
In the passage above, bored
taste buds made them long for the food of their slavery. Bored taste buds can
lead us back to Egypt. Instead of
tasting and seeing that the Lord is good, we can wander back into the fifty
cents tacos from Jack in the box.
How is your appetite for
the things of God? Take time this week
to ask God for a renewed hunger for Jesus Christ!
