Urgent Please Be at Church This Sunday
Hey New Lifer's,
This Sunday, we need all the members of our church family to make it a priority to attend the morning service.
We're going to take an unexpected break from our series in Haggai to address a challenge that has hit our church hard and fast. As members of the church family you need to know what's happening, what we're planning to do about it, and how it might affect our future.
Next week we'll resume our "regularly scheduled" series in Haggai. So if you're thinking about inviting someone to church (and we hope you are) please wait until next Sunday, because this week we need to talk as family.
Hope to see you then!

Introducing Scott Weisheit - We’re pleased to present Scott Weisheit as a candidate for the position of lay pastor at New Life Community Church.
What is a lay pastor? A Lay Pastor is someone officially commissioned by the church to assist in the pastoral care of the members, including performing weddings and funerals, counseling, hospital visits, and prayer for the sick.
The process - Before officially commissioning someone as a lay pastor, a period of thirty days is set aside for members to have input. Between now and February 20th, members can have input on the proposed candidate.
After February 20th, if there is no reason the candidate should not serve, they will be recognized in the position of lay pastor. You can send any comments to info@newlifecommunitychurch.net

Commitment Sunday
On February 8th, we’re asking members to play a part in keeping our property. We’re calling this project Growing in Faith. There are two things you can do to play a part.
1) Grab an information packet - We’re sending out information packets in the middle of January that give details about how to play a part. If you don’t receive one, they will be available at the Information Table.
Pray - Please pray about what you can do to help us take the next step toward a home of our own.

Growing in Christ
One of our goals for 2009 is to offer more to challenge our long term, more mature believers. We know that some of the activities that spur a younger believer do not always stretch a longer term Christian. So for 2009 we’re launching some new opportunities to challenge our growing believers. Below is a quick snapshot:
In:Depth – “In:Depth” is a new workshop designed for the growing believer. The heart of the workshop is an in-depth study of the book of Galatians. The goal of the workshop is to equip believers to study God’s word at a deeper level. As we do an in-depth study through the book of Galatians, we’ll learn principles for interpreting God’s word. This group will start in about 12 weeks.
Advance – Advance is a workshop that covers advanced topics I’ve taught in smaller settings in the past. This workshop will discuss what it means to be “In Christ”, the relationship between the Christian and the law, and concepts from a workshop I taught years back called “Kingdom of God”. Collectively these are some of my favorite theological topics to teach on. If you haven’t heard me cover these, I think they will challenge you biblically. This workshop will be offered later in the year.
Faith Essentials – This year we are offering a new workshop called Faith Essentials. This workshop involves reading a basic theology book that covers the foundations of the faith. Each week we’ll read a chapter and then gather together to discuss it. We hope this workshop will raise the theological understanding of our entire church family. Stay tuned for date and time.
Year Long Bible Reading Plan- A foundation for growing in Christ is studying God’s word. This year we are introducing a yearlong Bible reading plan. If you have a plan that is working for you, by all means stick with it. But if you’re looking for something new, you may want to try out the 2009 reading plan. It involves reading a chapter a day. It will be synced to our messages on Sunday morning (when possible) and over time, will get someone through all the books of the Bible.

Attend a Meeting
Our church is at a crucial crossroads regarding our plans for a
future church home. On February 8th we're asking members of our
church to help us decide whether or not we can keep our property.
The details are too difficult to explain here, so we're asking
everyone to make time to attend an information meeting. This
meeting is designed to give facts, answer questions and provide you
the information you'll need to decide your participation.
We only have a couple meetings left. The next is tomorrow night
(Thursday evening) at 7:00 pm. We're serving pizza at 6:45, so
come a little early grab something to eat.
Hope to see you then!

- We also have a recycling container for cans and bottles, located in our church kitchen.
- We have programmed thermostats that help us control energy usage.

Bible Reading Challenge
We want to help you become a more Bible-Centered Christian. We’re challenging every member to read a chapter of the Bible each day.
