We had to break the glass..

Hey New Lifer’s,

We need to share an important financial update:

We had to “break the glass” - For the very first time, we’ve had to tap into our church’s “back up” reserves. These reserves are the equivalent of our “In Case of Emergency: Break Glass” savings. This is obviously not good!

A quick review - If you’ve been following our financial updates, you know that we have been facing an ongoing monthly shortfall in giving. Previously we were able to cover these shortages by a combination of budget cuts and tapping existing funds. But at this point there are few cuts to make, and we do not have the cash to cover the ongoing shortfalls.

Two Options - Right now, we are falling short by an average of $500 dollars per week. That means we need to do one of two things, 1) Increase our giving $500 a week, or 2) Make further cuts in ministry. But at this point, further cuts would result in dramatic staff cuts and/or a change of facility. Neither of those is good.

Our Hope - Our hope is to see the giving go up. $500 is a significant amount, but it’s a shortfall we can overcome. To put things in perspective, for a church of 100, $500 a week averages out to $5 per person. This seems like a hurdle we can overcome.

In Closing - If we can get enough people thinking and praying about this, we can see a turn around. Thanks for taking time to read this update, and please pray for our financial situation.

Video Update - For more information, check out this 4-minute financial update by Mike Hannah.

Helping Those In Need

Would you like to help someone in need this holiday?

The Bible says, “He who is kind to the poor lends to the LORD, and he will reward him for what he has done” Proverbs 19:17. The holidays are a great time to reach out to those in need. There are members of our community, and even in our own church family who can use a helping hand over Christmas. Here are a few ways that you can get involved:

1) Buy a gift card to a local supermarket and drop it off at the church office, we'll then pass it along to someone in need.

2) Make a special financial gift to the church and deisgnate it for "members in need," we'll direct 100% of the gift to a member who could use a helping hand.

If you would like to find out more practical ways to help, check out our "Helping Those in Need" webpage.

November Giving Update!

How did we do in the month of October?

We were $5,578.99 short of our monthly budget.

How much does it “cost” to run the church?

In a 4 Sunday month it takes a minimum of $30,521. It allows us to pay the bills and fund a minimal amount to our ministries.

How much was the actual giving for the month?

The giving for November was $24,942.01.

What do we do cover the short fall?

Last month was the first time we had to tap into our “back up” reserve. Previously we were able to cover the shortages by using exisiting funds. But at this point we do not have the cash to cover on going shortages. We will continue to use this reserve until our monthly expenses consistenly match our giving. Please pray as we seek to strengthen our financial situation.

Is there anything else I need to know?
If you’re someone who regularly gives to God at New Life: Thanks! Your giving makes a difference.

If you’re someone who is not yet giving: Make a decision to get involved. Take the first step toward the biblical practice of giving. You can find out more about giving here.

And for everyone: Please take time this week to pray for the finances of both our church family, and the individual families that make up New Life.

The Consumption Assumption

Did you miss the message on Thanksgiving weekend? The topic was "The Consumption Assumption". The speaker was Andy Stanley, and it was part of a series called "Guardrails" that Andy delivered at his church in Georgia. He shared the 10-10-80 principle. Give 10%, Save 10%, Live off 80% of your income.

If you would like to watch (or re-watch) the message, you can do it online. You can also watch the other messages from the 6 part Guardrails series. Here is the link to the series. The Consumption Assumption is part 5 of the series.

Opportunities to Play a Part @ New Life

Help us in our mission as a church! Below our some ways to get plugged in and "On Mission":

1) Bulletins: Volunteer every other month helping to fold, stuff, and prepare the bulletins for our weekly services. This involves a weekly pick up and drop off of bulletin materials and about 1 hour to package bulletins for the month you serve.

2) Info Center Host: Welcome and assist service attendees at our info center after the 9:30 or 11 am service. This is a once a month or every other week position.

3) Kidzlife Check-In Center Host: Welcome and assist parents checking in their kids for classes. This involves arriving early to the 9:30 or 11 am service. This is a once a month or every other week position.

4) Greeters: Greet and assist service attenders at our 9:30 or 11 am service. This involves arriving early to one of the services. This is a once a month or every other week position.

5) Refreshments: Provide a welcoming and connecting atmosphere by preparing snacks & drinks for our weekly services. This is a once a month position preparing for both services. This involves purchasing & preparing snacks during the week, arriving at 10:10 am on Sunday to set up for first service. Then also setting up for the 2nd service.

If you would like to play a part in one of these areas of ministry, send us an email at serve@newlifecommunitychurch.net

Communion in you Life Group!

Christ calls us to take communion “In remembrance” of Him (Luke 22:19). We serve communion from time to time in our weekend services and large group settings, but the primary place communion happens is in our life groups. Communion takes place in the groups monthly, usually on the fourth week of the month. So if you’re not plugged in to a life group, get involved. You can find out more about groups by checking out the life group webpage.

October Giving Update 2011

How did we do in the month of October?

We were $5,208.40 short of our monthly budget.

How much does it “cost” to run the church?

In a 5 Sunday month it takes a minimum of $35,747. It allows us to pay the bills and fund a minimal amount to our ministries.

How much was the actual giving for the month?

The giving for October was $30,538.60.

What do we do cover the short fall?

For the first time we had to tap into our “back up” reserve. Obviously this is not good. Previously we were able to cover the shortages by using exisiting funds. But at this point we do not have the cash to cover the on going shortage.

What's the fix?

Right now, we are falling short by an average of $500 dollars per week. Either we need to increase our income or make more cuts in minstry. Our hope is not to reduce ministry, but to see the giving go up. $500 is a significant amount, and it’s significantly affecting our church. But it’s a shortfall we can overcome. For example, in a church of 100 people, a $500 increase in giving averages out to only $5 a week per person.
