Kingdom of God Workshop

Join us for a workshop that studies the Biblical concept of the Kingdom of God, the role of signs, wonders and miracles, and the power of the Holy Spirit. This three week workshop will start on Tuesday, February 2nd at 7:00 pm.

Here are some of the topics we’ll look at…

· Does God still miraculously heal today?

· In the Bible Jesus often cast out demons, does that still happen?

· What is the “Kingdom of God”, and is it now, or does it come later?

· In the New Testament it seems like God did many signs and wonders, was just for back then, or is it still for today?

Looking Ahead to 2010 – Sunday Morning Topics

Here is a heads up on some of the topics we plan to cover in 2010. Much of the time we go through books of the Bible, this will be true in the new year. We’re going to go through three books of the Bible that we’ve never looked at before as a church – Ezekial, Ecclesiastes, and 1 Timothy.

We’re also planning several series about the life of Christ – “Savior” that will happen right before Easter, and “The Seven Signs of Jesus”. In the book of John, there are seven miracles recorded and we’ll look at each. We have other messages planned, you’ll hear more as the year roles on.

Join Us this Sunday & Christmas Eve

The Grinch that Stole Christmas?

A recent article has entitled this recession, “ The Grinch that Stole Christmas”. Store sales are down, and there is less money to go around. In the past, the average family spends over $1500 on Christmas, there are presents to buy, decorations, lights, trees, parties, and more.

But for many people this will be a more simple Christmas, and that can be a good thing. Just like the Grinch discovered, you can take away all the presents and decorations and clutter, but you can’t take away the meaning of Christmas. Join us this Christmas for “A Simple Christmas”.

This two part series will take place on Sunday, December 20th, and Christmas Eve on Thursday, December 24th.

Service times for Sunday December 20th are 9:30 and 11:00 am. The service time for our Christmas Eve service time is 5:30 pm.

I (Mike Hannah) stopped by several of our small groups this week. What struck me is what great people we have at our church. If you're reading this post, hope to see you in a group when I stop by!

For more information you can check out our small groups here.

Resources, Pre-marital Counseling, etc

Here is the book that referenced during the weekend service. "Preparing for Marriage" is a workbook we often use for pre-marital counseling. You can find more information about relationship resources here. Or to find out more about "Preparing for Marriage" go here.

Pray for Guidance

During the month of November, our church staff begins planning for the upcoming year. Please pray for God’s Spirit to guide us as look ahead to 2010!

Important Property Update

We have an important property update: Our lender is moving forward with foreclosing on our property. Our property will be sold in a foreclosure sale on November 12th. As you know we have been working with the bank on possible options, but none of the scenarios worked, so the bank is taking back the property and putting it up for auction.

It’s disappointing to see this happen. But given the current economic circumstances, we simply can’t afford the property. If you’ve been reading the financial updates you know that it takes all of our Growing in Faith giving and our regular giving just to meet the church’s regular budget (and the last couple months we haven’t even been doing that). To find out more about this - click here.

P.S. Are you a Growing in Faith Supporter? If so, look for the letter that will arrive via mail. This letter addresses specific issues that will be of interest to those financially supporting Growing in Faith.

Keeping Your Spiritual Focus

God deserves our full devotion. But the busier you get, the harder it is to keep your focus on God. This weeks passage deals with the real life challenge of putting God first, when you also have family and friends and jobs and heartaches and hassles and ups and downs that can end up taking all our time and attention. Join us this Sunday to see what the Bible says about giving God our undivided devotion.

This is part of our real relationship series.

Picture from Weekend Message

During our relationship series we talked about how our wedding vows of "for better or worse" don't always translate into "happily ever after". Here's a picture that was shown in the service. If you missed the message, you can listen to it online here.

A view from Norway

Our current series "Real Relationships" is getting some exposure in Norway. A friend I (Mike Hannah) went to seminary with, saw our series on facebook and posted about it to his friends. I'm not sure what it says, but I recognize the phrase "cutting edge". The guy who posted it, Oyvind, visited our church many years ago when he was in LA going to seminary. Thanks Ovyind for the post!
